Export/Import Users

Hi Everyone,
We are currently trying to upgrade our site from version 12.3.1 to version 13.3.1. The site has almost 100 users and we were wondering if anyone knew of a way to export all of the users configured in the DeltaV User Manager in the version 12.3.1 system, and import them into the 13.3.1 system all at once. Or, is this operation totally manual and we have to re-enter the users passwords, keys..etc. one at a time.

Thanks in advance,
-Elliott Smith

  • The DeltaV Database will carry over the User Names and DeltaV Security Settings(Locks and Keys) when the DeltaV Upgrade Wizard exports the database.

To carry over passwords , if you are on a Windows Domain, you can maintain your users through migration of the Windows Domain into the new environment. This is a procedure of some complexity involving juggling of Active Directory FSMO roles, upgrading the Forest and Domain Levels from 2003 to 2008; and potentially with how the Domain Controllers replicate state, as Microsoft has changed that underlying software between generations of AD.

There are other things that will be lost when not migrating a domain:
Forest and Domain Trusts ( A consideration for AMS:Device Manager)
Custom AD User Groups and Memberships that exist outside DeltaV Scope
Custom Group Policy Objects will need to be exported an reimported
    DNS Zone Customizations
    ...

If you opt not to maintain your Domain through upgrades what you will need to do is set initial passwords and mark the account to change password on next login for the user to set their own password. Some of this can be expedited by scripting if you do some googling online.
