import/export

Can I import and or export an .fhx file without it affecting anything else in the plant strucure.

  • Yes. While importing the FHX, select only the CMS that needs updating or replacing.
The process will not be affected. Until you download the updated or replaced CMS, the modifications won't be reflected in the process.

I am assuming an FHX file is a complete copy of my current configuration data base? I am only wanting to retrieve one control module. forgive my ignorance as I have never done that before, but it appears to me this is what you are talking about.

    Hi Tom,

In DeltaV Explorer click on the module that you would like to export and go to File/Export/Selected Object (or right-click and select Export from the list). This will only export the module that you have selected (this is true for whatever you have selected, ie. if clicked on an area, then everything under the area is exported). The export file will be in the .fhx format.

thank you Trista, my issue is, we have a specific control module that controls our main boiler. obviously it is currently in operation. I want to import the FHX file from a month ago, but I only want the specific module to see what has changed in the calculations to get it back to optimum efficiency.

Sorry, I misunderstood your original question. If it is a daily backup and it is the entire database, importing it would be cumbersome (it prompts you to update items that already exist in the database and you could say no to all but the one module) and there is the opportunity to accidentally update something that you don't want to.

I am assuming you do not have a development or training system. To be safe, I would take a copy of the .fhx onto another computer and open up the .fhx in Notepad and search for the module name. Then underneath that, look for the block name where the calculations exist and find the expressions. You can then compare to what is currently in the database.

thank you so much, that is exactly what i was looking for

The fhx file is not only full database, it can be a single control module, EM, Phase, or any other item of DeltaV.
