If you wish to use the on-board 232 port, I'd suggest going the User Program route. The User Program will allow you to select which comm port you want to configure the Modbus polls for, so you will be able to select the on-board 232. Here is a link to the manual for this program. Please note that you will need to order the program AND the license key to unlock it.

The other option I spoke of was using the GC 485-App module. The app module is the exact same thing as the User Program, it's just a canned solution within a module that can be inserted into any open slot. The only limitation is that the module only comes with a 485 port (this is physically on the module so it will not consume any open ports available on the system).
